Today i will show you the installation of a methane gas detection system, the GS200/B central unit from Alltronic, for protecting a technical area with boilers for hot water heating.
The objective of the system is to cut off the supply of methane gas by cutting the 230V power supply to a solenoid valve, in this case, the main gas solenoid valve.
The GS200/B central unit can be used with up to 2 GS 12 type gas detectors to cover the entire area to be protected. A 12V DC battery can be integrated. The pre-alarm time can be adjusted from 2 to 60 seconds. The output relay has a double contact (NO and NC) free of voltage, ideal for directly operating a solenoid valve by supplying or cutting off its power.
In this installation, the following cables need to be connected to the central unit:
- 230Volts AC power supply for the central unit;
- Power supply/cut-off for the main gas solenoid valve;
- Optical signaler to signal Alarm at the Hotel reception;
- Optical-acoustic signaling at the entrance of this technical area to alert of a possible gas leak;
- Methane gas detector, 3-wire system;
In this installation, I had to operate two commands, the first being the solenoid valve to cut off the gas, and the second, no less important, the optical-acoustic signaling to alert people in the area that there is a real danger of a gas leak. To solve this problem, I had to use a 2-channel relay because the operating voltage of the solenoid valve (230V AC) is not the same as the operating voltage of the optical-acoustic signaling (12V DC), connecting this new relay to the central relay.
The GS 12 gas detector was installed on the proper terminals on the central unit, 12V DC, Ground, and return signal in alarm.
After the entire installation, tests were carried out successfully.
